Intellectuals and cultural advocates in Ogun and Lagos states gathered to celebrate the unveiling of two books: “Reflections in Ogu Anthropology” and “Footprints and Tributes: Ogu Hall of Fame”, an event organized by the Ogu Revivalist Vanguard who is also the General secretary of Ogun General Assembly.
The ceremony, held on Saturday, 18th October, 2025, at the Badagry Theatre along Badagry General Hospital road, by PWD, Badagry, Lagos State featured the public presentation of a text book chronicling the heritage and achievements of Ogu heroes and heroines in Nigeria, and another one on their anthropology and the general worldview.
Chairman of the occasion who is the Rector of Ogun State Institute of of Technology, Doctor Abiodun, Babatunde Oluseye was ably represented by the Deputy Rector, Dr. Oluyemi Akanbi Odutola.
In his goodwill message, Dr. Odutola commended the author, Hosu Mewhenu Peter , for his dedication to documenting the rich legacies of the Ogu people. He commended his efforts to highlight the unique contributions of Nigeria’s Ogu heroes, inspiring younger generations to emulate their virtues and follow honourable paths.
Mr. Hosu, who serves as the Administrative Head and Personal Assistant to the Rector of OGITECH, is a seasoned researcher, teacher, and advocate of moral excellence.
The works were reviewed by Prof. Senayon Olaoluwa of the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan, and Dr. Vinuyon Williams of the Department of English Language Education, Lagos State University of Education.
Both lauded the books as a significant tribute to Ogu heritage and their roles in preserving African identity.
In a moving moment, Mr. Hosu presented an Award of Recognition to Mr. Jonathan Edafe, acknowledging his invaluable support during the author’s academic journey through challenging times as a struggling secondary school student.
The event drew prominent dignitaries, including the Management Team of OGITECH, Igbeba, Ogun state; De Wheno I, Aholu Menu-Toyi I, Akran of Badagry; Prof. Jendele Hungbo (Chief Host) and the convener of Ogu General Assembly; Chief Nursing Officer, Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Mrs. Margaret Senami Erubami-Ajonuoke, Dr. Steve Agboyinu of the Petroleum Trust Fund, Abuja; Retired Commodore Festus Oluwasegun Hodewu; Member, Federal House of Representatives representing Badagry Federal constituecy, Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun Whingan, and the Executive Chairman, Ipokia Local Government Hon. Johnson Akohomeh Avoseh, Executive Chairman, Ipokia Local Government, among others.
The gathering
underscored a renewed commitment to cultural revival, academic collaboration, and the preservation of Ogu identity for generations to come.
The book *Footprints and Tributes: Hall of Fame chronicles heritage and contributions of twenty five Ogu heroes to the history and development of Ipokia, Ado-Odo/ota and Badagry Local Government areas.
