Candidates of opposition parties in the just concluded Bye election into Remo Federal constituency in Ogun East Senatorial District of Ogun state have described the bye election as a mere selection as it falls short of standard.
The August 16, 2025 bye election into Remo Federal constituency came to be following the demise of Honourable Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, on January 15, 2025, after a brief illness.

Seven months later, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) sets machinery in motion to fill the vacant position after its declaration by the speaker House of Representatives, Right Honourable of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abass.
Planet News monitored the August 16, bye election in Sagamu, Ikenne and Remo North local government Areas and reports that as early as 7 in the morning voters have converged on their different polling units in large numbers to perform their civil responsibility.
Polling boots such as Unit 007 ward 1, Ilaye Round about, Sagamu, Ward 15 unit 007 ibido square polling unit, Sagamu ,
Ward 4 unit 9 opposite police station ,Iperu Remo, Wesley Primary school, Iperu Remo and Ayegbami ward 8 and 9 among others, Voters in Ibido space polling unit, Sagamu, Ikenne and Remo North local government areas revealed that the election was peaceful.
Other polling units visited indicated that voters displayed maturely as priority was given to the elderly and people with disabilities to vote first.
This initiative some voters including a seventy- five years old Abosede Erinlu and a Sunday Oyegunle as well as Oyeleke Oluwole, Dare Aina, Aremo Akinlolu Agunbiade among other voters in their reactions commended INEC for the peaceful process and voters for their massive turn out.
They also commended security agencies for ensuring water tight security.
Speaking shortly after casting her ballot at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Candidate, Mrs Adesola Elegbeji of the candidates aligned with voters saying Remo is known for security and peace.

Narrating his ordeal to our correspondent, the Action Democratic Congress ADC candidate, Barrister Solomon Oluwaseyi Osho was different, describing the election as shambles.

Speaking further, Barrister Osho accused the ruling APC of intimidating and harassment of opposition with thugs and security agents.
“I am not even sure if there was an election today as the election was meant to be free and fair, free of violence and free of intimidation but what we experienced today was not an election” He said.

In solidarity and support for his party the member House of Representatives, representing Imeko/Afon, Yewa North Federal constituency, Chief Gboyega Nasir Isiaka also described the election as peaceful but advised the electoral umpire (INEC) to further improve on its technology especially BVAS in the subsequent elections.
It is therefore believed that as time goes by, the nation’s electoral process will be improved.
