Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on young people across the country to take ownership of their health by getting tested for HIV, seeking early treatment if positive, and actively combating stigmatisation
In her official message to mark World AIDS Day 2025, themed “Overcoming Disruptions; Transforming the AIDS Response,”
Mrs Tinubu stressed the need for renewed national effort to end HIV/AIDS by 2030.
“Nigeria has recorded remarkable progress in HIV prevention, treatment, and care over the years,” she said. “However, we must revitalise our collective efforts to achieve an AIDS-free nation where every Nigerian has unhindered access to life-saving services, free from stigma and discrimination.”
The First Lady emphasised that knowing one’s status remains the critical first step in breaking the chain of transmission and ensuring timely medical intervention.
World AIDS Day is observed annually on 1 December to raise awareness, remember those lost to the epidemic, and reaffirm global commitment to ending HIV/AIDS.
