The Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State, will graduate a total of 5,141 students at its 17th convocation ceremony scheduled for next Wednesday and Thursday.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adekunle Adeogun, disclosed this on Friday while briefing journalists at the university’s Senate Building on activities lined up for the convocation.
Adeogun revealed that 4,785 of the graduating students are from the regular programme, while 356 will receive postgraduate degrees. He said the breakdown of the regular graduands includes 40 First Class Honours, 1,466 Second Class Upper Division, 2,768 Second Class Lower Division, 492 Third Class and 19 Pass degrees.
He announced Bukola Osunrinde, a Computer Science graduate with a perfect CGPA of 5.0, as the overall best graduating student.
The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that the university would confer honorary Doctor of Science (Education) degrees on the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. He added that Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and a former governor of the state, Chief Olusegun Osoba, would receive honorary doctorate degrees in Education Management and Political Science, respectively.
Adeogun said the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) had provided significant support to students of the institution, noting that 4,210 students benefited from loans amounting to N700m during the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to him, the initiative has ensured that students are not denied access to tertiary education due to financial challenges.
He also announced that the National Universities Commission had approved 12 new undergraduate programmes and four doctoral programmes for the university. The new courses include Entrepreneurship, Physics and Electronics, Cyber Security, Data Science, Agricultural Science, Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Economics, Adult Education, Yoruba language, Christian Religious Knowledge, Fisheries and Aquaculture, among others.
Professor Adeogun further disclosed that the university’s 20th anniversary lecture, earlier scheduled for November last year, would now be delivered on Wednesday by the Minister of Education, Dr Moruf Alausa, alongside the convocation ceremony for first-degree graduates.
He noted that the institution currently enjoys full accreditation from the National Universities Commission and continues to review its curricula to align with global best practices, with emphasis on STEM education, digital pedagogy, entrepreneurship and inclusive education.
The acting Vice-Chancellor added that the adoption of the university by the Federal Government has strengthened its position within the national framework for teacher education and infrastructural development, while investments have been made in lecture theatres, laboratories, ICT infrastructure and other learning facilities.
He also said the university’s alumni and students continue to make global impact, citing the emergence of a postgraduate student, Adeola Olufunke Akinsulure, as one of the top 10 finalists in a global education recognition, one year after an alumnus, Dr Kayode Adewale, was listed among the Top 50 Teachers in the World.
