The Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Abeokuta Branch, Engr. Olumayowa Ayodeji Idowu, FNSE, has called for the implementation of technical recommendations from the NSE that were adopted by the Ogun State House of Assembly. He emphasized that these contributions highlight the importance of effective collaboration between professional bodies and legislative institutions, and stressed the need to turn policy decisions into tangible outcomes that benefit the people of Ogun State.
Engr. Idowu made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Ogun State House of Assembly Service Commission, Engr. Rt. Hon. Suraju Ishola Adekunmbi, FNSE, as part of ongoing efforts to deepen the partnership between engineers and government institutions in the state.
The meeting, held at the Commission’s office in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, offered a platform for detailed discussions on engineering professionalism, public service delivery, and the crucial role of engineers in governance and legislative affairs.
During the visit, Engr. Idowu praised Engr. Adekunmbi for his notable career in engineering, public service, and legislative leadership, highlighting his tenure as Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2019. He reiterated NSE Abeokuta Branch’s readiness to provide technical expertise and professional advice to support policy development, infrastructure projects, and sustainable governance initiatives.
Engr. Idowu also sought the Commission Chairman’s backing for bills and policies that promote engineering education, innovation, digital practices, local content development, and sustainable infrastructure in Ogun State.
In his remarks, Engr. Adekunmbi welcomed the visit, recognizing the NSE Abeokuta Branch’s valuable contributions to legislative processes. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the engineering profession and pledged support for science, technology, and engineering-related legislative initiatives, while encouraging continuous collaboration to ensure effective implementation.
Both leaders agreed on the critical need for ongoing engagement between professional organizations and legislative bodies to integrate engineering expertise into policy-making, implementation, and oversight, in line with Ogun State’s developmental goals.
The visit reinforces NSE Abeokuta Branch’s advocacy for strong institutional partnerships and its mission to place engineering at the center of sustainable development efforts across Ogun State.
