A suspected armed gang allegedly on a mission to carry out a murder operation has been intercepted by security operatives in Agunmo, Olorunda Local Council Development Area of Badagry, Lagos State.
The operation, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, was carried out jointly by the Olorunda LCDA Joint Task Force (JTF), the Odua People’s Congress (OPC), and officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to a senior official of the Olorunda JTF who spoke with Badagry Today on condition of anonymity due to the ongoing investigation, three suspected gang members were involved in the operation. While one of the suspects managed to escape during the raid, two others were arrested and found in possession of a firearm and other dangerous weapons.
The source disclosed that the security operatives acted on credible intelligence indicating that an armed gang had entered the area with plans to assassinate an individual. Following the tip-off, members of the JTF mobilised operatives of the OPC and the police, who strategically laid an ambush for the suspects around the Pipeline area of Agunmo.
The coordinated operation led to the successful apprehension of two members of the gang before they could allegedly execute their mission.
“The intelligence report revealed that the suspects were in the area to eliminate someone. We immediately mobilised our men alongside the OPC and the police. We laid an ambush and intercepted them before they could carry out the act. One suspect escaped, but two were arrested with a gun and other dangerous weapons,” the source said.
The arrested suspects have since been handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution, while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing gang member.
Residents of the area have commended the swift intervention of the security agencies, describing the operation as a major step towards curbing criminal activities and enhancing safety within the Olorunda and Badagry communities.
